新年諺語有郁李開花迎新春，故郁李於春天開花，果實是暗紅色，可以食用叫做「郁李仁」，做為中藥材來研碎後應用。花瓣分為單瓣與重瓣之分，單瓣花型多為原生種，重瓣花型多為園藝品種。
