以插枝法繁殖。又稱血萼花，常作為園藝觀賞植栽，點綴庭園或盆栽。玉葉是由萼片變化為白色有柄葉子藉以傳播花粉。玉葉的變化，因種類不同，有紅色、粉紅色之分。
