花盛開授粉後，黃色花瓣就會飄落，雄蕊跟萼片不像其他植物會掉落，反成鮮豔的紅色，加上從雌蕊子房發育出的黑色果實，整個造型看起來就像是米老鼠頭部，又稱米老鼠樹。
